The OBS Leadership and Service Award (LSA) 2012
In tandem with the Outward Bound Singapore (OBS)’s mission of “Developing mentally and physically rugged youths to be active citizens inspired to serve the community”, OBS is inviting applications for the “OBS Leadership and Service Award”.
We welcome youths with leadership potential and an active track record in community volunteerism to send in their application. We also welcome nominations from educational institutions, community organisations and employers.
Award
Successful applicants would be awarded a scholarship* to attend the OBS’s 21-Day Classic Challenge Course, where they will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey of adventure and self-discovery. Graduates from the programme would be required to take up leadership roles in service projects for the community.
The OBS’s 21-Day Classic Challenge Programme is a physically and mentally demanding programme with a wide variety of activities and challenges designed to help youth realise their true potential. It is based on a multi-element and multi-expedition concept where participants would take part in several extended expeditions. This helps them to venture into the unfamiliar, helping them to stretch beyond their comfort zone, to explore, venture and learn.
The course dates of the OBS's 21-Day Classic Challenge Programme are as follow:
- 7 to 27 June 2012
- 13 Aug to 2 Sep 2012
- 8 to 26 Oct 2012
- 3 to 23 Dec 2012
Criteria & Pre-requisite
• Students or young working adults between the age of 17 to 35 years old
• Is involved or has previous experience in community service projects
Commitment after the Programme
Graduates from the programme will have to undertake community centric programmes both individually and as a team in the following areas:
1. Individual: Assist in organising youth community events at grassroots level;
2. Team: Lead a community service project to serve the underprivileged.
Application and Nomination
Applicants will have to furnish their track records in the form of their CVs with accompanying testimonials, detailing their past experiences in leadership as well as community service.
Shortlisted individuals would undergo an interview-cum-selection process and finally, if selected, to undergo a medical examination before the programme.

*Scholarship covers about 85% of the course fees, successful applicant will only need to pay $535 for the entire 21-Day course.
