Youth With At Risk Behaviour
Participants come mainly from community-based organisations which include, but are not limited to gazetted Homes, Voluntary Welfare Organisations etc.
Our programmes do not provide quick-fix solutions to issues or challenges the youth are facing, but create opportunities to help them discover that the solution they seek can be found within themselves – that a difficult past does not mean a difficult future.
Our highly customised programmes are designed to help the youth learn more about themselves and in the process develop life skills and promote healthy lifestyles, attitudes and perspectives.
“Project Blue Peter” is the name for the Tote Board funded OBS at-risk youth project. The Blue Peter is a maritime flag used to signify that all sailors are on board and that the vessel is about to proceed to sea, committing herself to a voyage of discovery despite unknown and uncertainties. This is an appropriate metaphor for the at-risk youth who will have to leave the comfort of home, old self, habits and vices, and embark on a voyage bound for learning and self-discovery during the programmes.
There are two programmes under Project Blue Peter; a 5-Day “Intercept” programme for youth with truanting behaviour, the other a 21-Day “Pathfinder” programme for out-of-school youth.
Both programmes supplement existing nationwide initiatives for at-risk youth (i.e. Time-Out, Streetwise and Enhanced Step-Up Programmes) to achieve a more holistic, collaborative and systemic intervention approach. Through experiential learning methodology, the OBS adventure experience then becomes the direct metaphorical platform to harness the positive energy of these youth, enable them to make connections of how essential life skills and important concepts allowed them to be successful, and how they can be applied to the real world/ academic setting. The desired outcome is that the youth get an opportunity to re-direct their energy to positive behaviours and learn to make responsible decisions.

5-Day Intercept Programme for youth with truanting behaviour
The programme allows youth with truanting and/or high absenteeism issues to undergo value forming experiences, with the aim of raising their awareness of the possible consequences of their behaviour. The programme will also help them to develop a commitment to set and pursue developmental milestones so as to improve their school attendance. The intervention programme is specially designed to intercept youth at this crucial life path so as to redirect them before they lose total interest and drop out of school.
21-Day Pathfinder Programme for out-of-school youth
The programme aims to engage out-of-school youth to embrace life challenges and to seek purposeful life paths. Through the incorporation of routines and meaningful expeditions into the extended programme, youth participants will be re-directed to examine life purposes, discover hidden inner strengths and reserves and emerged recharged to pursue purposeful and meaningful lives ahead!
