Programmes for Youth

Special Programmes

At OBS we take special care to design programmes to reach all segments of the youth population. These Special Programmes are created using programming principles based on psychology and social work research.

  • 1. Youth At Risk Programmes
  • 2. Special Needs Programmes
  •

There are two main types of Special Programmes :

    1. Youth At Risk Programmes

Participants in these programmes come mainly from community based organizations such as gazetted homes, Voluntary Welfare Organizations who are working with similar profiles of youth.

These highly customized programmes are designed to help the youth learn more about themselves. The programmes helped in the development of life skills and promote healthy lifestyles, attitudes and perspectives.

These programmes do not provide a quick-fix solution to problems or challenges the youth are facing, but create opportunities to help them discover that the solution they seek is found within themselves - that a difficult past does not mean a difficult future.

It is important to note that these courses are NOT boot camp, survival training or therapy based.

    2. Special Needs Programmes

Participants in these courses may have an intellectual disability, learning disability and / or a physical disability. These courses are designed to primarily create opportunities for an engaging experience and exposure to the outdoors. Courses are also programmed to build self confidence and develop life skills like teamwork, communication and leadership.

This is what special programmes ' participants have to share about what they have learnt from their OBS experience:

Don't give up easily, persevere, be patient, cooperate…and only we can overcome our fear. There is no way we can overcome our fear if we don't want to, no matter how much our friends or parents or others encourage us, if we don't want to overcome it, we can't.”

I learnt that I should be more cooperative towards others and when we make mistakes, the issue is that we should learn how to admit it, learn from it and don't repeat it again”.

“I learned life lessons – it's our CHOICE, our LIFE. Learn to walk out of DARKNESS.”
